As a tween, myself, I gained a little "pudge" around my middle and that was my first introduction to calorie counting. From there, I began a yo-yo dieting cycle that would last for decades.

And I think this is an all too common story for many of us.

A desire to lose weight spurs us to "learn" about diet and nutrition. However, that desire to often "lose weight fast" also prevents us from trying to find a diet that is long-term and truly HEALTHY.

It's why we can feel like we are eating super well, super "clean," but not getting the results we want!
Because, while the quality of our food does matter for health and for overall optimal functioning...well...it doesn't matter to some extent if we want to simply lose weight or even gain muscle.

It really is those macros we need to dial in first, which in turn, will also help us start to eat more quality foods.

Now you may be thinking, "Isn't weight loss, or gaining muscle, really simply about calories in vs. calories out?"

And, yes, calories do matter. 

Overeat and it doesn't matter how healthy the foods are or the macro ratios you're following, you will gain weight. Plain and simple.

Eat less and you'll lose.

BUT what we often don't realize is that our macro ratios can really affect the amount of calories we actually need to get the results we want!

Eating higher protein? The thermic affect of protein may actually allow you to technically eat more calories while still staying in a deficit!
